This week while we were waiting for the Friday release of “The Incubus and the Angel,” the third installment in my magic u series (now live and available from Ravenous, the Kindle Store, ARe, etc…) some friends and readers came up with some songs that are really fitting for the characters and situations in the books!
It all started when someone tweeted that her iPod had served up the following song, which she found apropos for Kyle:
“The Big Wheel” by Rush, which contains the following, very fitting lyrics:
Well, I was only a kid, on a holy crusade
I placed no trust in a faith that was ready-made
Take no chances on paradise delayed
So I do a slow fade
Playing for time
Don’t want to wait for heaven
Looking for love
For an angel to forgive my sins
Playing with fire
Chasing something new to believe in
Another reader then suggested “New Friend” by No Doubt, and this one has a really close fit, too!
I’m on my journey
And I have enough old friends to keep me company
But you say “hey what’s up, you want to hook up?
You wanna hang out with me?
Kick back, relax, feel happy and lazy”
You’re sent to me one time
You come to me two times
Why me? three times
Well abracadabra now I’ve got a new friend
My own suggestion was “So Alive” by Love and Rockets, whose first verse could refer to Master Brandish, perhaps… and then there’s this:
My head is full of magic, baby
And I can share this with you
The feel I’m on a cross again, lately
But it’s nothing to do with you
Another friend suggested “Cosmik Debris” by Frank Zappa:
“I’ve got troubles of my own”, I said
“And you can’t help me out
So, take your meditations and your preparations
And ram it up your snout!”
“But I got the crystal ball”, he said
And held it to the light
So I snatched it, all away from him
And I showed him how to do it right
Keep the suggestions coming in! I’m loving it!
